This week is all about Lymes Disease! One of our team members was recently diagnosed with Lyme Disease, so what better time to learn more about it?!
Overview of Lyme Disease
Lyme Disease is a vector-borne disease that is caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. It is transmitted by a tick vector known as Ixodes pacificus, or more commonly known as the deer tick. They thrive in wooded and grassland areas, and for that reason, Lyme disease is very common in the Northeast and Midwest of the US. These infected ticks can transmit the infection to human hosts with a bite and cause a series of infectious stages: early, late, and chronic.

Hi all! I’m Hashim, and as the group leader, I’m responsible for setting up communication, delegating tasks and making sure our group is on schedule with deadlines and submissions. I also oversaw and edited the script. I am a Biochemistry major on the Pre-Dental track, hoping to establish my own practice someday and making dental care more accessible.

Hi! I’m Zia, a researcher and one of the hosts of this project. I was responsible for gathering information for the script as well as recording the podcast. I am a Global Health major with a certificate in Education and Education Services. I hope to one day work on developing vaccines and potentially pursue some sort of career in education.

Hey all! I’m Khizar, and I’m responsible for researching and recording the podcast script. I am a senior majoring in Biological Sciences, on the Pre-Med track, and hope to go into Pediatrics someday!

Hi! I'm Taylor. I am responsible for researching the diseases and writing the script for the podcasts and the overview for the website page. I am a premed student majoring in Genetics with a certificate in Global Health. I hope to be an OBGYN someday!
